Family.

On Monday we made the trek from Virginia to Kentucky.  A farmiliar one.  We drove back with the two weeks prior with both of our families trailing behind us as memories.  Memories of living, of being.  We traveled back in time for a bit.  We woke up in homes with our parents and siblings in the next room.  We played games, we laughed, we talked, we were there.  Its a strange and a comforting thing to be gone for two weeks away from “your” life and transport yourself to an almost “pre-us” life, that we now both inhabit. It feels a bit funny, and then at the same time, it feels so right, so natural.  Does that make sense?  Our lives change and we grow, but some things don’t change.  The feeling of home.  The comfort of love.  The joy of being with people who know you so well and who you will know for the rest of their and your lives…family.  It’s the same, but different…you just add to it.  I added a husband, a dog, experiences from this past year, and maybe someday we will add a new life to the mix.  But through it all, it is family.  There is laughter, joy, a realness and a rawness, love and beauty, and a lot of other things in the mix – and it is good.  So take a peek into our lives with our families, a time which automatically makes these some of my favorite photos of the year :)

This post is going to be short and sweet as we are in Florida right now visiting with Dave’s parents.  But this couple is seriously awesome!  We had so much fun driving around Richmond, Ky.  This couple contacted me about their wedding a month or so ago, but when they decided to have their wedding in Mexico (sounds pretty awesome right?), they decided to just to an engagement session with me.  I’m so glad that they did because we had a ton of fun, and I got to meet two new awesome people!

I drove up to Cincinnati on a gorgeous, but chilly day earlier this month.  I was excited for this shoot because we were doing it in downtown Cincinnati, and I haven’t done many shoots there, and I always love shooting in new places.  I feel like it inspires me more, there are more places, more ideas, more nooks and crannies that need to be explored.  I was also really excited because I had met Liz a while ago during our consultation and she was so sweet, so I was excited to see her again and meet her wonderful fiance!  And I was right to be excited, we had so much fun.  It might have been a little cold, and I might have kept calling Matthew, Michael (so sorry Matthew-I think I’ve got it now), but we had so much fun.  The shoot was full of lots of Santa’s, some handcuffs( a cop saw us shooting and said, do you want to wear these for a couple shots!), laughter, and lots of love.

Thanks Liz and Matthew for hanging out with me for an afternoon-I can’t wait to see you again on your big day!

Husband Times | Personal Post

So do you want to know a secret???  Well…there is this guy I kind of like.   He’s really handsome.  He has broad shoulders and a smile that makes me swoon.  I love how his eyes shrink and get creases around them when he smiles.  When he looks at me with that look I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.  He makes me laugh harder than anyone in the world, and is the only one who can make me feel better when I’m down.  He encourages me, knows me, prays for me, and loves me.  Yeah…I kind of like this guy :)

These photos are from a random little hike we took this week.  A random, beautiful, little hike.
